Pre-Build Design Consultations
Every dream home usually starts with a simple vision stemming from an individual’s personal style. We work with homeowners one-on-one to customize designs early in the planning stages to help ensure that our client’s personality gets expressed throughout their custom home (or rebuild), as intended. Whether it’s a rustic home built from ground up with heavy structural oak timbers or something more contemporary displaying simple natural wood accents, our goal is to work collaboratively and achieve amazing outcomes together. We work directly with clients and their architects, general contractors and framers throughout the design and building process. We pride ourselves in offering consistent, white-glove service and quick access to answer questions or share ideas… Always just a call away from start to finish!
Custom Structural Milling
As our name implies, Texas Custom Timber is a true custom sawmill. We mill boards and beams up to 24’ in length and saw to dimensional width and height spec. By harvesting our own timber (primarily dead-standing post oak & eastern red cedar) we maintain a stock of mill-ready logs. Along with custom band-sawing, other valued services are available:

Band-sawn boards and beams can be textured, providing a smooth but hand-hewn finish or simply sanded smooth without distressed markings

Corners may have natural and rounded edges, or ground down to be slightly bullnosed or kept at sharp 90-degrees

Surfaces may be left bare and unfinished or sealed with a variety of stains and/or protective oils.

Solid Beam Trusses
Design, Assembly & Delivery
It’s hard to match the “wow factor” of any high-ceilinged room like one with exposed solid wood trusses. There are some key considerations when it comes to designing, building and installing these for both interior and exterior structures. On the front end of this process, we work with you and/or your builder/framer to establish the timber materials list required for the job, based on your house plans and style preference. Once the design is engineered and approved, we’ll mill your solid beams to spec, including the option of surface texturing and sealant application. Whether constructed by metal plate or joinery, next is the coordination of delivery to your build site, typically preassembled. From design to delivery, it’s a turn-key truss building service that we offer, through our partnerships with the most reputable truss designers and builders in the state. Our mission is to facilitate the whole process in a way that minimizes potential hassles, while exceeding expectation on final outcomes.
The Four P’s
(Pergolas, Pavilions, Porches, Palapas)
Most any outdoor space can be transformed into your favorite place to gather and entertain with covered areas that blend with and enhance the natural scenery. Our custom designed pergolas, pavilions, porches and palapas will provide uncommonly sturdy structures with amazing eye-appeal. We have pre-assembled kit designs to choose from or we can model and fabricate one unique to your space. Our eastern red cedar is a great choice for exterior boards and post because of its natural beauty, hardness and resistance to decay. Unless requested otherwise, we mill to nominal sizes meaning, for example, true 2”x10” boards and 8”x8” posts. From poolside to pond-side pergolas, from quaint swing supporting structures to breathtaking pavilions and from sun-blocking lattice & rafters protecting your vegetable garden to vintage-styled chicken houses pampering your laying hens… We’ll help transform your vision into a structure that immediately provides function and beauty, along with long-term structural integrity.
Decking and Siding
We offer a great wood choice in trailer decking for anyone needing extra durability and impact strength. Naturally rot resistant and incredibly hard, post oak has unique qualities that’ll provide legit longevity in the harshest work conditions. We’ll mill boards to match your trailer’s dimensional requirements, to included customized widths for extra thickness.
Eastern red cedar live edged siding is a beautiful, highly rot resistant material to achieve a rustic, natural aesthetic for both interior and exterior. It features a rich, knotty grain and the iconic scent of aromatic cedar. Though technically a softwood, eastern red is rated 900 on the Janka hardness scale (nearly twice as hard as western red cedar) and contains natural oils that resist damp climates, insects and decay.
Skinned Cedar
With its rough outer bark removed, eastern red cedar has dozens of uses in rustic construction and landscaping because of its durability and minimal maintenance requirements. This variety is stronger, denser, and more naturally resistant to rot and insects compared to white cedar. Skinned cedar takes stain and sealers beautifully for a smooth coverage that shows off grains and knots with lots of natural appeal. Our most popular skinned products are:

Whole logs selected and sized to dimension for posts, columns, and log home construction… from 8’ to 24’ in length and from 6” to 20” in diameter. These trees grow naturally with narrowing taper starting from the base all the way to the top, so expect diameter taper of 1 to 2 inches for every 8 feet in length on average.

D-Shaped beams, milled from whole logs, are primarily used for log siding and log home construction. This style features a flat interior and a curved, natural-edged exterior resembling the letter “D”. Because of this uniformity, it provides the advantage of easier installation while maintaining an amazing rustic appearance.
Solid Mantels
Mantels should be selected with purpose to not only match the style of the room, but to serve as a centerpiece that showcases in subtle fashion. As with our fingerprints, no two natural wood mantels are exactly alike, but stylistically we’ve given names to four descriptive categories:

Straight Edge – As name implies, this mantle will be milled and sanded smooth with no natural edges or hewn markings. Clean, 90-degreed corners all around. The color and grain patterns of the natural wood will do all the talking.

Ranch Cut – With generally squared corners, this mantle will take on a little more rustic appeal having light to heavy bull-nosed corners and slight waviness along the sides. Hand-hewn markings can be added to create a very convincing ventage/reclaimed look.

Natural Edge – Here we select the perfect slice of the right log to showcase natural beauty that mother nature created. The exposed face of this mantel will have all the curves, knots and creases left alone as it had standing in the woods, with only the bark removed.

Wild Edge – These mantels require the most precision to craft and the results are always stunning. Here we take aged dead timber and remove all the loose outer material, leaving behind solid heartwood that has the most incredible rustic and unique character you’ll find.
